김형직, 이경희 선교사 편지                                                     2014. 6.6.

The graduation in only weeks away, I am currently busy preparing for the finals; I will march with MA in Intercultural Studies (formerly, School of World Mission) from Fuller Theological Seminary with emphasis on Islamic Studies. God had placed a burden on our hearts to study in preparation for our next season in our lives working among the Muslim communities to which we are called. Our family is all thrilled to be able to finish this chapter of our lives.  Time back in the US helped us to reflect on our time in Indonesia to see what God had been doing and to focus on the road ahead to anticipate what He will do.

The season of learning and preparation had been a season of learning, healing and growth for our family.  We were able to reflect deeply on what is a family and how we as a family need to connect together and how that connection in broader family of Christ in community strengthens the Church.  Also, we have witnessed  God using our wounds/weaknesses to minister to others who are in pain.  And we look forward to seeing God’s power being made perfect in our weaknesses (고린도후 12:9) as we move forward to our next season in our lives.

Our family is planning to move back to Indonesia in late August given that all the elements fall into place, such as visa, finance, and many other moving parts.  We will go back to the same area where we were doing same kinds of work among the same unreached people group, however, there will be some changes in how our family engage with each other and also with the committed faith communities.

Doctors have advised Kate to keep monitoring her health; as for her treatment options we are weighing when and where would be good to get medical treatment that would allow ample time for healing after the surgery if and when needed.

Josiah is growing in stature and in favor with God and man; he is within an inch of his father’s height and probably within the year’s end will be taller. He is continually being shaped as a leader through his involvement as student council member, and through mentoring and various leadership training.  Recently Josiah passed the first stage of the selection process for a scholarship program, if selected would provide educational guidance for future education and also help assist in some of the summer training programs.

Lydia is doing really well in school but her eye lights up when she is being creative with craft; recently she is enjoying making rubber band bracelets and decorations by “looming”.  We are very proud of Lydia just having finished reading the bible from cover to cover; we applaud her efforts of trying to stick to her schedule of reading every morning for couple of years.

Blessing,

Peter, Kate, Josiah, and Lydia Kim
